Laundry Room Reveal

Well.  It's finally here.  The day I can officially say my laundry room is lovely.

Before I started to change the space into something that was not only functional, but nice to took much planning.

The laundry room (which is the small little room between the kitchen and the garage) functions also as the pantry.  So, when I was planning the space I had to consider where to store my potato chips and my laundry baskets.

Here are a few BEFORE shots.

Don't sneeze!  This wall of junk could fall on you.

View from in front of washer and dryer toward pantry area.
View of wall with top pantry started (removing old and unpainted beadboard).

Another door trim half finished (or half started, depending on your view point).
This was the place where my husband's work coats breed more coats.  I swear there were at least 20 of them when I removed that coat hook.
Nine foot ceilings means you can stack lots of stuff on top of these cabinets :(

The "keeping it real" photo.
View from door to garage toward window.

View after I started removing some of the old trim.  Apparently, I had painted the room this horrible yellow color during one of my pregnancies.
Half finished door trim around magnetic chalkboard door I did last year.

I will be posting the details of the projects all week, but I couldn't wait to show you the completed room.  And now here are some of the AFTER pictures.

I installed a metal backsplash for under $25 and built a counter top for around $35.

Here is a view of the can good holders I made for the cabinets.

Another angle of the counter and the metal backsplash.

Small little splash of green (see it in the inspiration photo below).

More pops of green.

Instead of having laundry baskets blocking my path to the washer and dryer, they are tucked away in this cabinet.  No one will ever know I have dirty clothes :)

See...the path is clear!

Unfortunately, there wasn't much I could do about the tiny laundry room size, but I tried to get as much use out of the counter (for folding laundry) and the tall wall cabinets.

Added a roll out shelf for the kids snacks (easier for them to reach).

For a mini tutorial on how I installed the two base cabinets, CLICK HERE!

Rich wood tones, silver hardware and white.  My favorite.

This white wall is the one you can see from the kitchen so I made it as clean and simple as possible.

This light is so bright and functional for the entire 12x5 room.

Strategically placed fruit bowl to hide the hoses for the washer.

Cozy little decorations make it more enjoyable to visit and fold clothes.

White trim with a grey blue wall.

This was where the old coat rack was hanging on the wall.  My daughter's new favorite spot in the house.

I used cedar planks for the counter.

Found a small silverware caddy at the store today to use for incoming mail.  New rule - no mail on the counter.

Cute little wall art.

I'm still in the middle of trying to decorate the pantry space, but I added a few canisters, baskets and jars for many items.
Instead of scraping the painted popcorn ceilings, I added plank paneling (hubs helped with that).

Follow your heart!

Thanks for checking in to see the new room.  I think I may change the dining room into an office/library next since we never use the dining room (and it is becoming the new hot spot of clutter).

More posts coming all week on the projects involved with the laundry room.  Stay with me.

Karen :)

  35. I think I may change the dining room into an office/library next since we never use the dining room (and it is becoming the new hot spot of clutter).

this comment could come from my mouth. I'm currently trying to convince my husband to do the same thing, formal dining to a library/study room, for the kids. Now the room just holds clutter.

    love the new laundry room!.

  36. Thank you :):):) It's been a week and it still looks clean and organized. It's crazy how it took a small remodel to make me want to do laundry and keep a room clean. Best money and effort spent in my house, apart from the kitchen.
